Wrath

I am continuing to read this devotional of John of the Cross in Dark Night of the Soul out of the book, Devotional Classics (See post: Dark Night)  The next thing John covers is spiritual wrath.  This wrath happens when the joy of our spiritual life is taken away we become angry, frusterated and bitter.

Has this ever happened to you?  Have you had a time where you don’t hear God’s voice?  You really need an answer to your prayer, but can’t get any response?  I know I have been there.

This commentary comes in response to this stage.
What happens next?  Do you:  Become angry with yourself?  Become angry with God?  Do you try to work harder to become more spiritual?  And through all of this, do you get more frusterated at the lack of response from God?

What John suggests and what I have been guilty of is that this soul lacks the "patience that waits for whatever God would give and when God chooses to give."

Song:  Everlasting God

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord (Isaiah 40)
